A Site about the Bible, culture and philosophy

Hi, and welcome to Thinking Through the Bible!

I built this site to be a place where you can explore the relationship between the Bible, culture and philosophy. The resources you can find here are written primarily for Christians, but everyone is very welcome to browse, comment and interact.

The site contains excerpts from books I have written, talks, seminars and courses I have given, thought-provoking quotations, links to resources I have found helpful, tips for Christian students and academics, and principles that have served me well in mt academic journey so far.

The material you will find here is characterised by the following principles:

  • A commitment to the Bible as both the Word of God and also a rich source of insights and tools for engaging in fresh and constructive ways with the great debates of contemporary culture and society.
  • A stubborn determination to listen carefully to diverse viewpoints under the banner of ‘audi alteram partem’ (‘listen to the other side’).

My aim is to provide the sort of resources I would have benefitted from as an undergraduate and postgraduate student in the Arts faculty of a large secular university. I hope you find something here to encourage you, challenge you, or make you think.

If you are interested in finding out more about my academic work, including projects in French philosophy, the emancipation narrative of the modern West, the figure of the human, atheism and Michel Serres, or if you fancy picking up some academic research and productivity hacks, head over to christopherwatkin.com

Cheers,

Chris
